TRIBUTE OF TITUS POLUKUU BY THE NANDOM CONSTITUENCY YOUTH SECRETARIAT

The Late Titus Polukuu was a professionally trained special education teacher at the Wa School for Deaf. He acquired his first degree and Masters in the then UDS now UBIDS. Titus was a gentleman. He was one of the young men who was very focused and determined in all spheres of life. His aspiration to achieving his ultimate goal in life was consistent and unrelenting. He was visionary. His vision was anchored on the principle of loyalty, commitment, hard work and humility. He never relented in pursuing what was good for him.

The late Titus Polukuu loved people. He could spend his time, energy and other resources of his to solving problems for people.

His unconditional love for people, made him an accomplished youth leader in the Upper West Region. This is evident in the number of youth Titus groomed, some of whom are currently occupying influential positions in NDC at the regional and constituency levels respectively.

Titus was also a politician. Indeed, a politically experienced young man. He knew the nitty-gritty of politics. He spent most of his time doing politics. He started his political career in his school days when he was TEIN executive from training college to the then (UDS) University for Development Studies, Wa campus now UBIDS.

Having performed creditably as TEIN organiser, Titus was appointed as the elections director for Nandom Constituency. There again, he delivered beyond expectations. This gave him the green light to put himself forward at the regional level.

His hard work, commitment, humility and loyalty to the course of NDC in the region and beyond, caught the attention of the youth in the region. NDC as a party that rewards hard work and loyalty, the various Constituency Youth Organisers in 2014 voted for the late Titus Polukuu as a Deputy Regional Youth Organiser for Upper West Region during the Regional Delegates Conference. After his four year tenure in office,  in 2018, his mandate was again  renewed his mandate to serve for another 4 years.

Titus, as former Deputy Regional Youth Organiser, discharged his duties with lots of admirations. He was versatile with party works. He dedicated his life to NDC as a party. His presence and active participation in party activities was visible and commendable.

Titus Polukuu was a very respectful young man. His respect for people was non-discriminatory. He respected both young and elderly, rich and poor and so on.

As focused as Titus was, he secured admission to pursue law in the SD Dombo University for Business and Integrated Development Studies. He paid the admission fees in Stanbic bank already, ready to start his LLB programme.

The late Titus Polukuu was suppose to report to UBIDS campus on Monday, 5th January, 2023, a day after his untimely death, to register his courses as a law student.

Unfortunately, at about 7:30pm of that "Dark Sunday", 4th January, 2023, Titus was returning to his house from Kunfabiala, an outskirt of Wa town on a motorbike. The spot of the road where he got to at that time, was a pothole. In front of Titus was a speeding up-coming Ssangyong Ulvan. The Ssangyong Ulvan in an attempt to dodge the pothole, crashed Titus on the road leaving him lifeless on the spot with blood oozing out of his mouth and other parts of the body.

This untimely and painful exit of Titus Polukuu has left many youth with tattered hearts, free-flowing tears and confusion. Titus had groomed many youth  into politics with some  still undergoing training in his hands. He was a role model to a teaming youth. His shocking and painful exit has created a wide vacuum which may take a long time to be filled.

Oh death, why now? Could you not have waited a bit? You prematurely terminated his life! What should the youth, who look up to him, do? Oh death what should the little ones he left behind do? Who will train these children of his? Who is their father now? Death, you have created a sea of tears that will involuntarily run down their cheeks uncontrollably. Why, why, whyyy death? Death, why are you so wicked?

Oh Titus, we will forever miss you. Rest well until we meet again in paradise.

Derbie Raphael

Constituency Youth Organiser, Nandom
