I heard his name. It was very famous. I didn't know him as of then. I even spoke with him but had neither seen nor known him.
The first time we met was when Ihe came to Upper West Region. He came on a campaign tour for the portfolio he holds currently. All the constituency and regional youth cammanders were present. He was urshered in by our distinguished regional youth commander, N.B.D. Dery Nicodemus. We the constituency youth organisers and deputies introduced ourselves and he did same with his campaign team.
Hon. George Opare Addo is his name. He is a former DCE. His most popular name is Pablo. He began to speak after the necessary rubrics for a meeting were done. Hon. PABLO declared his intention to run for the party's youth organisership slot in the national level. I was moved by his calm and reassuring posturing. I listened to him with cock ears.
What was his message? It was very simple and straight to the point. What every electorate will want to hear. He had organised himself, fully prepared for the position. The PABLO project was a template cataloguing all the projects he would execute should we give him nod to lead the youth front. Some of these projects were empowering the youth organisers at all levels through power packed training and capacity workshops. Another one was to make the youth mobile to discharge their duties. Again, to adequately resource the regional youth commanders to also fortify their constituency and branch youth organisers. The PABLO projects were mouthwatering and feasible. Many actually doubted not their feasibilitity but his willingness to do it should he get the nod.
At the end of the meeting, the mind game of camparison between him and his main contender, Mr. Brogya Gyenfi was being played in the heads of the various commanders. The days were still far but fast approaching.
PABLO'S posturing was humble, determined and focused. It was conspicuous he was a non-violent young man. His response to questions indicated his unquestionable competency to hold the position well. His humbleness, respectfulness, purpose-driven-campaign coupled with some other distinguished attributes made him stood tall among his contenders. Information emanated across the length and breadth of the country suggested that Pablo was gaining the grounds. It wasn't astonishing when he emerged victorious.
What did he do as the national youth organiser so far? Time will not permit me to catalogue all his accomplishments. First, Lawyer George Opare Addo has successfully organised capacity building, training and orientation workshops for the constituency youth organisers. He has also mobilised some motorbikes for the constituency youth organisers. In addition to that Lawyer Pablo organised another capacity building workshops for the youth organisers. This was meant to equip the various constituency and branch youth organisers for the just ended election. Footballs and jerseys were donated to some youth groups across the country. These and many more are his achievements as of now.
Lawyer George Opare Addo is a workerholic youth organiser, a very humble servant so committed and dedicated in serving the youth and the great NDC. He has a good working relationship with his youth commanders. He has demonstrated distinguish leadership qualities. Pablo is slow to anger but quick to forgive. He bears no grudges with you for any offence. He will rather want a discussion between the two of you. Indeed, he walks his talks and he is up to the task. These are trademarks of exceptional leader. He deserves another term to completely rejuvenate and transform the youth front into a more formidable one.
Indeed, the Nana Addo government thought they could fraustrate me with their recent worst DUMSOR we experience now but I have grown beyond any fraustration. When I started to write this piece, my phone ran out of battery and there was light out throughtout the day. I waited impatiently but there was no sign for the "DUM" to "SOR". I slept while waiting for the light. It came on at 1:00am. This caused the late celebration of this gallant and resilient young man.
We have a famous saying, "better late than never". I therefore wish to add my small but loud voice to the many voices in expressing my best wishes and felicitations to you as you celebrate this milestone in your life. You have proven yourself to be a trusted politician. May the Almighty God grant you your heart desires. May you live long to enjoy the fruits of your labour. May your enemies fall into their own traps while you go by unharmed. Amen. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO YOU Commander of the Youth of NDC.
