TRIBUTE FROM NDC UPPER WEST REGION TO THE LATE COMRADE ERIC SAGRAZA(Constituency Youth Organizer for Nandom Constituency)

23/11/2019

‘The upright, even if he dies before his time, will be at rest. Honorable age does not depend on length of days, nor is the number of years a true measure of life; understanding is gray hair for man and a spotless life is ripe old age’. (Wisdom 4:7-10)
The sound of the lyre has not been pleasant. The xylophones have been blaring with hot dirges. The gorge drums are being beaten once more. A branch of our mighty baobab has fallen on the wrong side of the road. The storm of sorrow has uprooted our fruiting tree with pre- matured fruits and the cold lonely path of our fathers is being travelled.

Youth Commander! It is almost mid-day but you have not responded to our calls, neither have you woken up from sleep. Men are grieving, children are wailing and women are inconsolable. The army of youth is set in battle array, but the commander has gone to sleep never to wake up again. You lie stiff and cold before us at this moment we desire most to hear you. What could have gone wrong?

A few days back, you invited the rank and file of the party in the Region to join you mourn your beloved mother, who had finished her race of life and called to glory. As we were preparing to honor this invitation, rumors came around that you have been taken by a sudden illness and been rushed to the St Theresa’s Hospital in Nandom for treatment. Little did we know that, the clock of life was winding up on you and that, time had come for the humble lion to bow out of the race of life.

When things appeared quiet more threatening here in Nandom, you were rushed to Akomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further attention. But how could we have known that when the icy hands of death firms up on a life, no medicine can loosen it? How could we have known that, we were chasing the wind? How could it dawn on us that, our beloved youth commander has slept the way of our fathers never to wake up on this mortal earth? “ gbeng baal ko ob-muo ! buu ni agna ? “ dopure vaar mwaa se vieli ! ati sangna ni buno” ? Sagraza ! nyine na a te fang be tina sag ni aagna mi?

While on earth, you were a man of courage, a man of strong conviction, a true fighter a determined and courageous person whom the storms of life could never be deterring enough to push you from achieving your vision. With an appreciable passion and courage, you carried along the youth wing of our party in the Nandom Constituency. You were a leader that never discriminated but very firm on your convictions and decisions.

Against the storms of life, you build a strong youth wing imbued with the appropriate zeal to carry the NDC to victory in 2020. You have cleared the field, planted and tendered the plants but have now turned your back to the fruiting farm. Who shall lead the youth in the harvest? Who have you left the teeming youth for?

See how your Comrades, family and friends are grieving in pains? Eric! Who shall fill the vacuum that you have created in our lives? Oh death! Why lay your hands on him when we needed him most?

Death might have drawn a curtain over the stage on which you acted on earth, but warm memories of your dedication, commitment, friendliness, truthfulness and unwavering loyalty will continue to linger in our minds. Our solace rest in John 11:25 where scripture says “I am the resurrection and the life: he that believes in me, though he was dead, yet shall he live”

Comrade Eric! fo yelke ti sagraza. A faa ni a vela…. Ti deni a ti wahala ko a Naamwin. Farewell in this journey of eternity. May the Spirit of God Almighty through the intercession of Mother Mary, guide you in this journey to eternity. Rest peacefully in the Lord till we meet again.
