NUGS Excellence Awards, A Projector That Magnifies Distinguished Students' Contributions


Kindly accept greetings from the BEST STUDENT'S WRITER, BLOGGER AND REPORTER of the year, 2019. Before I deeply delve into the subject matter, let me first of all express my profound appreciation to Almighty God for the favour He bestowed on me last night as the Best Student's Writer, Blogger and Reporter of the year. We have a saying that goes, "a man who fails to appreciate, will certainly depreciate". It is against this backdrop I sincerely write express my utmost gratitude to the following personalities, Hon. Denis Andaban, Hon. Adingo and all supporters of mine for the supports you gave me that enable me to chalk this milestone success. Let me hasten to thank the organisers of this magnificent programme for the great job they executed. God richly bless you abundantly. I can not conclude this paragraph without acknowledging the nominees in this category. We have all won as a people belonging to the ink fraternity. I urge you never to be demoralised for there will always be a better day ahead. I will also entreat that we continue to inform, educate, celebrate, entertain and criticise constructively so that we can reshape the society where bribery, corruption, violence, robbery, etc are committed with impunity. This, we can do through writing.

Moving forward, Nugs excellence awards is the brain child of a former indefatigable Nugs president who was a visionary and prolific leader bent on improving and transforming the systems to building a formidable students front. His Excellency Kwesi Agyeman the 2015/16 Local Nugs President of this great institution, a foresighted young man, saw the need to initiate this awards night so that deserving individuals or groups of students who contributed in no small way to the progress of COLTEK are meritoriously awarded. This, he knew will inspire students to unrelentlessly give off their best that will go a long way to transforming the institution.

As laudable as the initiative is, successors of Mr. Kwesi Agyeman thought it wise to continue with the awards night and improve upon it significantly. His Excellency Eric Dumenu the former Nugs president, 2016/17 academic year, His Excellency, Solomon Kudjo famously known as T. Solo, the immediate past Nugs President for 2017/18 academic year and the incumbent president, His Excellency Dominic Baidoo worked tirelessly to sustaining and raising the standards of this great initiative.


Nugs Excellence Awards is one of the patronising catalyser in UEWK. Usually a great number of students make time out of their busy schedules to participate in this all important entertaining/awards programme.


This year's (2019) Nugs Excellence Awards celebrated on the theme, "Inspiring Greatness, Celebrating Excellence" was not entirely different from the previous ones. The euphoria that characterised the programme was immeasurable. Indeed, it was a power-packed programme that entertained and rewarded deserving students who contributed in diverse ways to uplifting the image of the institution.


Nugs excellence awards give hope, motivate, encourage and inspire the awardees and the general student populace as it recognises and appreciates distinguished students on campus who enormously contributed their quota to reshaping COLTEK.


I want to use this opportunity to once again thank the executives of National Union of Ghana's Students (NUGS) and the organiser's of last night's Nugs Excellence Awards for such a wonderful programme. Let me also be quick to make a passionate appeal to incoming executives to continue with this great initiative for there is a saying that a nation that does not recognises its heroes is not worth dying for. Thank you.
