My first encounter with him was my training college days when I left the campus of NJA College of education to visit Mr. Titus Polukuu, one of his lieutenants now.
As the then General Secretary for TEIN in Jahan, I was doing some political discussions with Mr. Titus when this young man came. He was in a nicely hand sewed smock that complemented his very attractive bangles, giving him a king-like look.
After I was introduced by Mr. Titus, this young man stretched out his hand in all humility for hand shake and that was accompanied by his angelic smiles.
Mr. N.B.D Nicodemus Dery, the Upper West Regional Youth Commander of the great opposition party, NDC, is a man with uncommon leadership qualities. He is a fine brilliant young man who commands immeasurable respect from people across the length and breadth of the region and beyond. He works hard to earn his respect.
Characteristic of this promising young man is his uncompromising principles and philosophy of life which I guess is the secret behind his success. It is a public knowledge that both young and old cherish the lifestyle and competence of this young man. I get inspired and motivated any time I see him. He is a mentor to many a youth.
One may doubt if told that this gentle man is lecturer in the university. His humble nature and the personal relationship he has with many people can seldomly be found in most university young lecturers. The level of arrogance, pride, disrespect and belittlement that is common among most lecturers cannot be traced in Mr Nicodemus.
Another appealing attribute of Mr Nicodemus is his honesty, truthfulness and frankness. This gentle man is one of the few people who will stand by the truth irrespective of the repercussions. He is a person with the lion's heart. He tells you his mind without budding his eyes-lid irrespective of your age or status, provided he is in tandem with the law.
These enviable attributes of this great young man appeal so much to most of the teaming youth who want to progress in life. That makes him an icon in our contemporary political landscape.
On this special day of this great young man, I find time out of my busy schedules to celebrate him in grand-style as my contribution to his merry-making and jollification since the economic hardship wouldn't allow some of us to buy a bottle of beer for him.
It is also my prayer that his new age comes with more grace, success, victory and prosperity for him and NDC as a party. I pray that the Almighty God protects and guides your going out and coming in. May he renders them powerless, all those with evil mind against you. May your enemies fall into their own traps while you go by unharmed. May you live long to enjoy the fruits of your labour and help transform the Youth.
